Since forming in 1980, Happy Mondays have stood as one of the UK’s most groundbreaking bands, redefining alternative music with their fearless blend of indie rock, psychedelia, funk, and club culture. Led by the unmistakable Shaun Ryder and featuring fan-favourite force of nature Bez, the band became a cornerstone of the legendary Madchester era.

Celebrating 35 years of their platinum-selling masterpiece Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, Happy Mondays continue to honour the album that propelled them to international acclaim, delivering era-defining classics including “Step On,” “Kinky Afro,” and a catalogue of tracks that helped shape British music history.

Formed in Salford, Greater Manchester in 1980, Happy Mondays emerged with a line-up led by Shaun Ryder, alongside Paul Ryder, Mark Day, Paul Davis, and Gary Whelan, with Bez later joining as the band’s iconic dancer and percussionist. After being discovered by Tony Wilson, the band signed to Factory Records and released a string of acclaimed albums including Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out), Bummed, and the landmark Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches.

Released in 1990, Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches went platinum in the UK, selling over 350,000 copies and cementing Happy Mondays as one of the UK’s most influential bands of the early ’90s. Driven by hit singles “Step On” and “Kinky Afro,” the band became a defining force in the Manchester music scene, achieving major success through world tours, international festival appearances, acclaimed reunions, and decades of live performances across the UK and beyond.
